Welcome to the Kulig Family Farm

For Christmas this year, the Kulig's got a new family member. Waffles, the Basset Hound, is the next Kulig family member to join us here in Kentucky. Belle, our loyal and wonderful German Shepherd of 10 years, was at first, a bit shy when she first met Waffles, but now, she is her mentor and friend. It's brought a whole new pep and light to our sweet doggy Belle, and I think I even see Belle's motherly instincts kicking in. Waffles is so small compared to Belle, that all she does is run up by Belle's front paws, leaping and licking at Belle's mouth, and reminds me of that dog from Bugs Bunny "Spike the Bulldog" and the lovable Chester who wants to be just like Spike. As if she's saying "Your my friend, Belle" and "When I grow up, I want to be just like you, Belle".
What's also really cute, is watching Leslie and the puppy playing together. Leslie takes Waffles favorite toy chicken and tells the puppy "the chicken is laughing at you", and makes the chicken dance all around the puppy. You would swear the puppy understands, because it just can't seem to get enough of the game. Later, the puppy collapses by Leslie and sleeps forever and ever!! Sprawled out like the puppy can't extend itself far enough!!

Brian Kirby has invited us to his place to watch some fireworks. We are looking forward to it, and hope that all of our friends find themselves having a great time as well. We have never really been a huge 4th of July family. This morning, the only one motivated to go any where or do anything has been Leslie. Although Cassie has been hungry for Burritto's all morning. Leslie is getting her shoes on, and giving me the "EYE", so I think I have to get my butt motivated now.

Leave it to our daughters to bring more animals to the farm. They found a wounded baby "Little Brown Bat" (That's really what they are called) that could no longer fly, and over a period of days, one of our daughters (everyone who knows the family, knows which daughter it is) has found this bat to be extremely tame, because he truly seems to understand that she is not going to hurt him. The most he will do is to lick her on her arm. He seems to be as friendly as they come, crawling all over her. She collects bugs for him and feeds him all he wants, and she claims when he's hungry he squeaks his "echolocation" chatter, and she goes out and gets him another beetle or any bug that flys around the light on the porch. I really didn't buy it, but while she was holding him in front of me, he squeaked, and she went out and gave him a beetle, and he went to town eating that little thing. I'm really not sure who is training who, but "Batman" as she calls him, seems to be as happy as happy can be. He crawls all over my daughter, and really seems to enjoy his new friend. My little animal lover told me that when Batman's wing heals up, he's free to go. She really has a way with animals, and has a very strong respect for them too. I really believe that she'll be a vet when she's older!!

My wife and I took the family to Holiday World yesterday, and they had a GREAT time!! Now that the two oldest are teens, we know that we are lame, and they really don't want to hang out with us. We brought their friends with them anyways, so we really didn't expect them to hang around Mom and Dad very long. We almost rode every single ride they have there at the park, including the Raven, the Legend, The Voyage, etc, etc. I'll say that they must have one of the nicest parks in the country, because they keep it clean, happy, and functional. When I say clean, I mean every facet of the word clean: physically clean, and the people there seem to all adhere to the rules, and they have clothes that are respectful of others, the paint is crisp and colorful. It's like going to a new park every time we have gone there. They really take pride in their park!! All of our kids had a REALLY GREAT time!

Our oldest daughter, Tabitha, graduated on June 6th, and made the family proud. She is planning to attend a local college and study business. We spent the day with Tabitha on Saturday, and took her and some friends out to dinner. Her cousins and other family called and wished Tabitha well and congratulated her on her milestone. She hopes to start school in about two weeks and live on-campus. She has been working at a local clothing store and plans to transfer to another store closer to where she will be attending school. After finishing at the two year college she will then transfer her credits to another local college to attain a bachelor's degree. We all wish her well!
